Novell Ships Programmer Tools for NetWare 386

LAS VEGAS (Microbytes Daily News Service) --- Novell announced at
Comdex that it has started shipping a set a programming tools for
its NetWare 386 network operating system. Several vendors said
they have already developed NetWare 386 applications using a beta
version of the programming toolkit.
 
Oracle, Informix, Gupta Technologies, Emerald Systems, General
Meters Corp., and ISICAD Inc. were among the companies that said
they had used the NetWare Programmer's Workbench. Fifteen vendors
demonstrated products here, and 10 others declared they'll
develop NetWare 386-compatible products.
 
Gupta announced that it is developing a version of its SQLBase
4.0 database server for NetWare, which will be available in
mid-1990. Emerald said it would offer an enhanced version of its
RAMP system-managed storage software for NetWare 386, which will
ship in parts through 1990. And ISICAD said it will port its
CADvance computer-aided design package to NetWare 386.
 
Some of the ports to NetWare 386 took as little as two days,
according to Jack Blount, executive director of strategic
relations for Novell.
 
The NetWare Programmer's Workbench is available for $3995, only
to Novell-qualified "Strategic Partners," who have to commit to
developing client/server applications. Developers approved as
qualified Strategic Partners are required to purchase the
Programmer's Workbench within 30 days, Novell said.
 
Novell also said it's now shipping its NetWare OS/2 Developer's
Kit, which supports OS/2 version 1.2. It costs $495.
