When DEXPO West '89 and the DECUS Symposium open in Anaheim,
California, November 7-9, a host of new products for DEC
minis, mainframes, and workstations that will be announced or
demonstrated. Among the unveilings will be a toolkit that lets
you run Windows/286, and most current Windows applications, on
that most unfortunate of orphans, the DEC Rainbow.

Suitable Solutions estimates that there are still about 300,000
or more DEC Rainbow users out there, and many would like to run
Windows applications. Since Windows is considered a dog on
anything less than an 80286, and the Rainbow uses the Z-80 and
8088, the kit includes an accelerator that the company says
effectively turns the Rainbow into an IBM AT clone running at
12 MHz. But you'll still be able to run DOS and Rainbow CP/M
applications, and connect as a terminal to a VAX using the
Rainbow's built-in terminal mode.

Minimum requirements will be 640K bytes of RAM (896
recommended), a hard disk drive, the Rainbow Graphics Option,
and Suitable Solutions' DOS 3.10 for the Rainbow.

The company will show the product from 1 to 10 p.m. at the
Anaheim Hilton and Towers November 7-9; the product is
scheduled to ship November 1, 1989.

Price: $89; Windows, kit, and mouse, about $250.
