CompuAdd decreased the size (by 29 percent) of its five low-end
systems and built onto their motherboards floppy- and hard-disk
controllers, and serial and parallel ports.

From the 80386SX to the NEC V20 (with a diskless 80286 in
between), each new system comes with three full-size and two
half-size expansion slots, and room for two disk drives. The
company is using the Award's BIOS now, but will be switching to
Phoenix Technologies' BIOS sometime this fall.

CompuAdd's 80386SX, model 316s, is a 16-MHz zero wait-state
processor with 1 megabyte of RAM, expandable to 4 megabytes on
the motherboard. There's support for an 80387SX math coprocessor,
your choice of 5.25-inch 1.2-megabyte or 1.44-megabyte 3.5-inch
floppies, a 145-watt powwer supply, and a 101-key keyboard.

The new 216, a 16-MHz 80286, comes standard with 512K bytes RAM
that's expandable to 4 megabytes on the motherboard. It's has the
same standard features as the SX, except that your choice of math
coprocessor is, of course, the 80287. For your basic AT needs,
you might pick the 212, with the same exact configuration
as its brother, the 216, except with a 12-MHz processor. A 212
without the disk drive is called the 212w, for workstation (as in
LAN).

For local area networking, CompuAdd sells your basic diskless
12-MHz 80286/keyboard configuration that's got all the same slots
for expansion.

For XT basics, the CompuAdd 810 is an 10-MHz, NEC V20-based sys-
tem. Standard equipment includes 640K bytes RAM (which isn't ex-
pandable), a 360K-byte 5.25-inch floppy disk drive, a floppy/hard
disk controller, a parallel port, two serial ports, a keyboard
and a 145-watt power supply. There's support for an 8087 math
coprocessor, and expansion slots can accommodate three full-size
and two half-size cards.

Optional equipment includes MGA, CGA, and color VGA monitors and
your choice of 20- and 40-megabyte hard-disk drives.

Price: 316s, $1495; 216, $995; 212, $895; 212w, $795; 810, $595.
