XD88/10 20-MHz RISC workstation More MIPS for the Buck

Microbytes Daily News Service Copyright (c) 1989, McGraw-Hill, Inc. The
Tektronix XD88/10, a 20-MHz RISC-based workstation, features fast bit-mapped
graphics and achieves a price/performance level of $900/MIPS, according to
Tektronix.

Standard equipment includes a 16-inch 1280- by 1024-pixel color monitor, 8
megabytes of RAM, a 156-megabyte hard disk drive, and Ethernet and Soft PC
emulation. You can upgrade the system to include 32 megabytes of RAM, disk
storage to 3 gigabytes, and a VME slot. You can expand the 256-color system to
24 bit planes with an 8-bit overlay.

Tektronix improves color bit-mapped graphics with four proprietary gate aray
CMOS integrated circuits called the Color (/=) Caches. In parallel, they
transfer pixels eight times faster, Tektronix claims, between the 32-bit system
bus and the proprietary 256-bit Pixel Data Bus.

Price: $15,450.
