Alps recently introduced a pair of 24-pin dot-matrix printers.
The Allegro 500 and 500XT emulate the Epson LQ2550 and work with
any parallel interface.

The Allegro 500 prints 216 cps (characters per second) in draft
mode and 72 cps in letter-quality mode. The 500XT prints at 300
cps in draft and 100 cps in letter-quality. The difference
between the two printers is that the 500XT accommodates wider
paper.

Both printers have automatic tear-bar and Macro Mode features.
The tear-bar features automatically moves the paper perforation
to the tear bar once the printer stops receiving data. The Macro
Mode feature lets you save custom settings. Seven standard
resident fonts are included.

The 500XT printer will be available this month, and the 500 will
ship in March, according to Alps.

Price: 500, $499; XT, $799.
