Nynex, the Northeast's very own Bell Operating Company, has
introduced the Nynex LANpath FAX Server (NLFS). The company
claims it's the first LAN-based FAX system designed to run on an
OS/2 server that supports DOS workstations.

Using a NetBIOS compatible LAN, NLFS lets you send those
ubiquitous FAXes quickly and efficiently. Using OS/2's
multitasking, the package can handle several FAXes concurrently;
simultaneously dialing, sending, and generating cover sheets.

NLFS also has automatic load balancing, according to Nynex. It's
a feature that routes FAXes to whichever FAX server on the LAN
can process the request most efficiently.

The NLFS works with Nynex LANpath fax cards, which have their
own dedicated processors for offloading FAX chores from the
server processor. NLFS can handle up to eight FAX cards in
individual servers.

Other features of the NLFS include broadcast transmission to
multiple receivers, pre-scheduled delivery, automatic redial,
automatic addressing of cover sheets, and a menu interface with
context-sensitive help. The software also can convert most
applications file formats to FAX format, including ASCII, TIFF,
and PCX.
