A high-capacity WORM (write once, read many times) optical disk
drive, the Gigadisc 6000 stores up to 3.2 gigabytes of data on
each side of a 12-inch disk. It has an average access time of 100
ms, and it can sustain a data transfer rate of 1 megabyte per
second in read or write mode; in write and verify mode, the rate
is 400K bytes per second.

If you need more than 6.4 gigabytes of storage, you can use the
Gigadisc 6000 in Cygnet Systems' 1800 series of expandable
jukeboxes. You can configure this with one to five drives reading
up to 141 disks. Utilizing Gigadisc 6000 drives, a Cygnet Model
1803 jukebox can provide rapid access to over 900 gigabytes of
data in a floor space of less than 20 square feet.

The Gigadisc 6000 can also read disks recorded at 1 gigabyte
per side on the Gigadisc 1001 and 1002 drives. In addition, it
can read and write optical disks using either bubble or hole
technology. It comes with a standard SCSI controller, so you can
use it with most computers.

Price: 100,000 French francs.
